Narrative
On December [XXX], 2025, a 2025 Cadillac Escalade was travelling northwest on [XXX] in Albany, New York, with Super Cruise engaged and active. Crash data indicated a frontal impact occurred that deployed the front seat belt pretensioners and airbags. The driver and front passenger were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash. According to OnStar recordings, the driver stated he struck a vehicle that pulled in front of him. The driver complained of chest pain. At 2 seconds prior to the crash, Super Cruise changed to a Disabled/Not Ready state due to the driver braking.
Update: On December 5, 2025, GM learned according to news reports a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse entered the highway and crossed all four lanes of traffic, blocking the path of the Escalade, which struck the Traverse from behind in the far-left lane. The driver of the Traverse was later pronounced dead at Albany Medical Center. The other passengers in the Traverse (one adult and three children) and the four adults traveling in the Escalade were also taken to the Albany Medical Center. According to news reports and a NY State Police update published on December 2, the other eight people involved in the crash had non-life-threatening injuries.
