Overview

The NHTSA autonomous vehicle incident database contains 6,450 reports spanning 60 manufacturers across 52 states and territories. This data represents the most comprehensive publicly available dataset on autonomous vehicle safety in the United States.

The data splits into two major categories: 2,709 ADS (Automated Driving System, Level 3+) incidents and 3,741 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System, Level 2) incidents. ADS incidents are concentrated among a few manufacturers operating robotaxi fleets, while ADAS incidents span a wider range of consumer vehicle makers.
