Volkswagen Jetta Incident

Two test vehicles with single occupants each consisting of the driver (vehicle 1 ahead of vehicle 2) were traveling on northbound [XXX]. Vehicle 1 swerved to avoid a collision with vehicle 3 (passenger car) that was stopped in the lane. Vehicle 2 (subject vehicle) decreased speed from 73 mph to 35 mph but collided with the rear end of vehicle 3. The driver side airbag and the left and right curtain airbags of the subject vehicle deployed upon impact. The subject vehicle was driving with travel assist (SAE L2 system) active prior to the incident. The driver of the subject vehicle reported no injuries and medical emergency services were not called to the scene. The Troy, MI police were called to the scene of the incident, the driver of the subject vehicle was issued a citation.
