Volkswagen ID.4 Incident

The subject vehicle (operated as part of a test fleet) was traveling eastbound at 72 MPH on [XXX] while travel assist (SAE L2 system) was active. Near the overpass of [XXX], a deer abruptly darted across the highway, from the driver's left, leading to a frontal collision between the deer and subject vehicle. The driver reacted to the sudden impact by applying the brakes and pulling off the highway onto the shoulder. The DeWitt Twp Police were contacted and the incident was documented by the DeWitt Twp Police. There were no reported injuries, airbag deployments, or additional road users involved in the crash, but the subject vehicle was towed away. As is normal from internal testing events, data and learnings from this event will be analyzed in furtherance of continuous system improvement, but VWGoA does not plan further investigation of this specific incident because the facts and circumstances do not indicate any issue with the vehicle's performance.
