Rivian R1S Incident

On October [XXX], 2023, at 2:35 p.m. PST, the subject vehicle was traveling north on [XXX] at approximately 75 mph with Rivians Level 2 ADAS feature, Highway Assist (HWA), engaged. While traveling across an overpass at 2:35:18 p.m. PST, HWA disengaged because the subject vehicle moved out of its ODD as a result of insufficient highway markings. At 2:35:18 p.m. PST, the driver received audio and visual alerts to take over the subject vehicle through in-vehicle messaging. The driver did not heed the warnings and the vehicle began to drift to the right, at which point Lane Keep Assist intervened and guided the vehicle back to the left to avoid crossing over the lane boundary. After this automatic vehicle intervention, the driver finally retook control of the wheel but overcorrected, steering the vehicle to the left until it left the roadway and impacted the side marker at 2:35:21 p.m. PST, causing minor damage to the subject vehicle.
