Rivian R1S Incident

On June [XXX], 2024, at approximately 7:58 AM PT the subject vehicle was traveling with Rivians Level 2 ADAS feature, Highway Assist (HWA), engaged at a speed of approximately 82 mph. The driver turned the steering wheel in a way that exceeded the driver takeover request threshold of HWA, which disengaged the steering assistance and returned steering control to the driver. At this time the system was registering the drivers hands on the wheel. The vehicle continued on under control of the driver with steering inputs ranging from +20 degrees to -26 degrees and eventually impacted another vehicle traveling in the adjacent lane, resulting in minor superficial damage to the rear of the vehicle.
