CADILLAC Escalade Incident

On March [XXX], 2026, a 2021 Cadillac Escalade was traveling southeast on [XXX] near Hawthorne, Florida, with Super Cruise engaged and active. Crash data recorded a frontal impact that resulted in deployment of the airbag and front seat belt pretensioners. The driver was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. In a review of the OnStar audio recording, the driver refers to the ADAS system as "autopilot" and indicates he was using the system and the vehicle jerked to the left while he was reaching to get a drink. The driver indicated the vehicle crossed the median and struck a tractor trailer. He reported no injuries. System data shows that Super Cruise changed to an Override state 3 seconds prior to the crash due to driver applied steering torque. Super Cruise changed to a Disabled/Not Ready state 1.5 seconds prior to the crash due to driver applied braking.
