CHEVROLET Equinox Incident

On January [XXX], 2026, a 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV was travelling northbound on [XXX] near Kalamazoo, Michigan with Super Cruise engaged and active. Crash data indicates there was a frontal impact that deployed airbags and front seat pretensioners. The driver was wearing their seatbelt at the time of crash. A review of OnStar audio recordings indicated that the vehicle veered off the highway and struck the left guardrail. Vehicle telemetry data indicates that Super Cruise transitioned to "Disabled/Not Ready" 3 seconds prior to the crash due to a brake press. Update: On January 22, 2026 GM received the police report where the driver stated that they initially veered off the roadway onto the left shoulder, at which point the lane-assist feature steered the vehicle back into the travel lane. The driver then overcorrected, lost control, and subsequently struck the guardrail on the opposite side of the highway. No injuries were reported.
